An event sponsored by the City of West Hollywood, LACER’s Art Festival at Fairfax High school was an event where 21 students signed-up to enter their art submission in order to win a grand prize of $300.00. All students received all the necessary materials and supplies for their submission.
There were four (4) categories: Repurposed, 3-D, Mix medium, and painting. Students were gearing up to showcase their self-expressed artwork. The show day, which would have been run entirely by the LACER leadership, would have featured live performances from the LACER Rock Band, along with food and games.
The rack of clothing was the clothes the fashion students were going to use to repurpose and create brand-new outfits.
The sewing kits, fabric chalk, scissors and fabric paint were for the students to use on their fashion pieces.
The paint pallets, markers, erasers and other material was for the student’s painting and other mix medium art.
STUDENT WORK IN PROGRESS: The art piece provided was being worked on by Danika Y.; she was a 10th grader, now 11th grade. Her piece was mix medium. She was using pieces of paper from a comic book to create the background.
We hope when the Covid-19 pandemic comes to an end, we can revisit this idea. The students were so excited to work on their art and looking forward to the event. Besides the display of their art and having judges come to look at their work, we were going to have outdoor activities. There would have been a virtual reality station, photo booth, live music by our Rock Band, corn in the hole game, and food and beverage for guest to enjoy. We wanted to really create an art festival ambiance for the students to enjoy.
Special appreciation for the LACER leadership, LACER staff, and students participating in the event on their team effort in planning all the event details.
